North Kohala Public Library

KATAYAMA & ASSOCIATES, INC. was the mechanical engineer for this new library. This project utilized various concepts including rainwater reuse, photovoltaic and wind turbine power to create a very sustainable building. This project is attempting to become a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold Level designed building. The project has motorized louvers that are interlocked with the air conditioning system, thereby utilizing the natural prevailing tradewinds for cooling in lieu of the air conditioning.
